Overview

The Maintain Product Detail window is used to create and maintain individual variations of a product in bizwizIQ® Order Manager.

Each Product Detail represents a specific item that can be added to an order.

For example, the Polar Camel 22 oz. Skinny Tumbler product may contain separate Product Details for red, blue, black, and other available colors.

Each variation can have its own description, SKUs, cost, selling price, inventory settings, image, and pricing configuration.

Product Status

The Product Status field identifies the current status of the Product Detail.

Individual Product Details can have different statuses from the parent product.

This allows specific variations to be managed independently.

For example, one color may be discontinued while other colors remain active.

Inventory Tracking

Select Track Inventory? when inventory quantities should be tracked for the Product Detail.

When inventory tracking is enabled, Order Manager maintains inventory information for the individual item.

Inventory quantities can be viewed from the parent product's Details tab.

Commissionable Products

Select Commissionable? when the Product Detail is eligible for salesperson commissions.

When enabled, the Product Detail can be included in commission calculations according to the commission settings configured in Order Manager.

Important: The Commissionable option operates independently of Specialty Costing, which is configured at the parent product level.

Product Costs

Unit Cost

The Unit Cost field contains the cost associated with purchasing or producing the Product Detail.

Landing Cost

The Landing Cost field represents the total cost of acquiring the Product Detail, including its purchase cost and additional expenses.

These expenses may include:

  • Product purchase cost
  • Freight or shipping charges
  • Import duties
  • Other applicable acquisition costs

Landing Cost Example

A supplier sells a product for $8.35 per unit.

Additional expenses include $0.75 per unit for freight and $0.15 per unit for other charges.

Cost ComponentAmount
Product Cost$8.35
Freight$0.75
Additional Charges$0.15
Landing Cost$9.25

The total Landing Cost is $9.25 per unit.

This provides a more complete representation of the cost of acquiring the product.

Product Pricing

The Pricing Method section provides two options.

Base Pricing

Select Base pricing to use the Product Detail's base pricing configuration.

The Base Pricing Formula tab provides access to the pricing formula assigned to the Product Detail.

Matrix Pricing

Select Matrix Pricing when the selling price depends on a combination of attributes.

For example, an engraved brass plate may be priced according to its length and width.

Different combinations of these attributes can have different selling prices.

Calculate Button

The Calculate button is used to calculate the Product Detail's selling price based on its configured product family pricing method.

Product Detail Images

Each Product Detail can have its own image.

This allows individual variations to display an image that accurately represents the item.

For example, a red tumbler can have a different image from a blue tumbler.

Assigning an Image

  1. Open the Product Detail.
  2. Click Assign Image to Product Detail.
  3. Select the appropriate image.
  4. Save the Product Detail.

Product Kits

The Kit tab allows kits to be assigned to the Product Detail.

Kits contain components that can be associated with a finished product.

For example, an award may have a kit containing different bases or engraving plates.

Kit Information

ColumnDescription

Price Adjustment MethodMethod used to adjust pricing when a kit component selection changes.

Assigning a Kit

  1. Open the Product Detail.
  2. Select the Kit tab.
  3. Click New.
  4. Select the appropriate kit.
  5. Configure the Price Adjustment Method.
  6. Save the kit assignment.

Selecting Kit Components During Order Entry

When a Product Detail with an assigned kit is added to an order, Order Manager presents the kit component selection window.

The user can select the components to be included with the finished product.

If a selected component has a different price, the selling price of the finished Product Detail can be adjusted according to the assigned Price Adjustment Method.

Kit components can also be accessed from the order line item and expanded from the order's line item list.

See Selecting Kit Components During Order Entry for detailed instructions.

Base Pricing Formula

The Base Pricing Formula tab allows users to assign a custom pricing formula to an individual Product Detail, overriding the default pricing formula associated with its Product Family.

Normally, a Product Detail uses the pricing formula assigned to its Product Family. However, there may be situations where a different pricing formula is required.

This feature is useful when:

  • No Product Family Pricing Formula Exists: A Product Detail requires a pricing formula, but no default formula has been assigned to its Product Family.
  • Custom Pricing Is Required: A specific Product Detail requires a different pricing calculation than other products within the same Product Family.

How Base Pricing Formula Overrides Work

When a custom Base Pricing Formula is assigned to a Product Detail, it takes precedence over the pricing formula associated with the Product Family.

If no custom formula is assigned, the Product Detail uses the Product Family's default pricing formula, when one exists.

Example

A Product Family named Acrylic Awards has a default pricing formula that calculates the selling price using a 50% markup on cost.

However, a particular acrylic award requires a 75% markup because of additional handling requirements.

Rather than changing the pricing formula for the entire Product Family, you can assign a custom Base Pricing Formula to that specific Product Detail.

Pricing ConfigurationMarkup
Product Family Default50%
Product Detail Override75%

Only the Product Detail with the custom formula uses the 75% markup. Other Product Details continue using the Product Family's default pricing formula.

Important

A custom Base Pricing Formula applies only to the Product Detail to which it is assigned. It does not change the pricing formula associated with the Product Family or affect other Product Details.

See Product Families for additional information about configuring default pricing formulas.

Product Questions

The Product Questions tab provides access to questions associated with the Product Detail.

These questions can be used to collect information required when the product is ordered.

For example, a personalized award may require engraving text, a sports league name, or other customization information.

See Product Questions for additional information.

Product Sales Statistics

Click Product Sales Statistics to access sales information associated with the Product Detail.

This provides a way to review sales activity for the individual product variation.

Saving a Product Detail

After entering or modifying the Product Detail information:

  1. Verify the description and SKU information.
  2. Review the Unit Cost and Landing Cost.
  3. Confirm the selling price and pricing method.
  4. Verify inventory tracking and commission settings.
  5. Review any assigned kits or Product Questions.
